Advanced Drawing Features I'd like to See in AI
![]()
This is my subjective opinion, but this is no contest. AI (Illustrator) wins this contest hands down. AI and CD (Corel) and the two two drawing applications on the market
A.I. Wish List
1. Showing fonts in real time on the tool bar. AI does not have this feature like CD. It can be so convenient and time-saving to see what the font looks like before you apply it to the text

2. Perspective Envelop.
CD wins this hands-down. This provides some of the best image-editing functionality for drawing non-raster images on computers. I sometimes work in CD just for this function along and export the finished object back into AI for the finished product. Adding realist perspective has always been an artistic challenge, and Corel really hit a home-run with this feature.

Interactive Extrude Tool: Another killer perspective tool. For adding depth to an art object this tool just can't be beat. You can change the amount of depth in real time and see your changes on the screen as they will appear. Once this is done you can break apart the art object and add gradient and other fill effects to the background "depth" section of the design.

Final thoughts:
In spite of these tremendous effects, CD falls short in several areas. The Bezier tool in AI is just so much more intuitive. The Bezier tool is one of the most difficult drawing tools to master in any drawing application. AI's beats CD's hands-down in my opinion.
Also, CD has too much of an emphasis on raster effects in my opinion. If I want raster effects I will work in PhotoShop. There is a reason why artists use non-raster drawing applications: for scalability of the artwork. We don't need the hassle of raster effects integrated with our logo designs and other artwork.
