Design Concepts: Bitmapped vs. Vector Graphics
Bitmapped images in your logo design can look horrible when resized beyond the size that they are originally created in.
Common bitmapped applications include Adobe PhotoShop and Corel PhotoPaint.
Vector Graphics
These types of graphics are made in applications such as Adobe Illustrator and CorelDraw. Instead of just pixels to represent an image, vector drawing applications draw actual objects which can be independently manipulated. This applications use mathematical guides to tell the screen to draw an object at a certain angle and size. The objects are resolution-independent, meaning that they can be resized and not loose any clarity. This can be a considerable benefit in logo design as the image often has to fit on several different size formats.
Here the logo design can be resized to any resolution and still look good.
