Overview of PhotoShop Filters


This series begins an overview of some of the artistic filters that one can use with Adobe PhotoShop. As has been mentioned repeatedly in this website, PhotoShop can be a very problematic application for logo design creation due to scalability issues. Nevertheless, it is an excellent application for the adornment of finished EPS files, as well as for making the design more beautiful for Internet use. 

Below is text that is written on its own layer so that this object by itself can be manipulated independently.


In this example the Inner Bevel option is chose. You can see the effect at the upper left. In this case we choose a Smooth Technique and a depth of 100%. The size is 5 and the Soften is set to 0. There are additional settings below this. You can use the Angle option to set the angle of the Bevel. You can also choose to use Global Light. 


The first filter is the "Drop Shadow" filter. We can select just the current layer or all layers for this effect. In this example there are several style options: In this case we chose the Outer Bevel option. You can see the this effect at the left of this graphic. The other settings for the Structure are: Technique, Depth, Direction (up or down), Size and Soften. You can choose the depth of the contour and whether or not the graphic is anti-aliased.
