New H&R Block Corporate Identity: Pushing the Boundaries of Simplicity

For those of you over a certain age (40+), you might remember watching "The Doris Day Show." Well, there was an episode where Doris Day meets an artist specializing in "modern art." Doris took a peek of the "artist's" portfolio, which consisted of  three paintings of plain black circles, squares and triangles. Doris said "wait a minute, that's just a circle, and that's a triangle!" This anecdote reflects the general public's bewilderment with the concept of modern/abstract art.

If you haven't seen the new H&R Block logo, it isn't hard to describe...it's a green square. I wish I had been the one who was paid to make this design. I could have done it in three seconds. A huge corporation can get away with something like this, and honestly, the image does fit the company's name (Block). They have the marketing budget to gain brand association with just an image alone...no identifying text is necessary.

Do I think this design is bad? No...it's a simple, bold design that does have a relevant match. I guess I'm just jealous. I want to draw primary geometric objects and I want big companies to pay me big money for it!
